Understanding the tariff

SHARE THIS

It’s essential for all customers to be informed about the new water tariffs set forth by To Tatou Vai (TTV). The legal authority for these tariffs is outlined in Section 26 of the TTV Act 2021. The Board announced the tariffs in September 2024, with the new charges coming into effect on October 1, 2024.

All prices are VAT exclusive and quoted in NZD.

Residential Rates

  • Block 1: $17 Up to 50,000 litres per month
  • Each subsequent block of 50,000 litres per month: $34

Note: Usage will be estimated until all households are metered. If excessive usage is detected, a fee of $34 will apply for consumption beyond 50,000 litres.

Commercial Rates

For commercial customers, defined as those who conduct commercial activity on the land where water is supplied, the tariff structure is as follows:

  • Block 1: $34 Up to 50,000 litres per month
  • Each subsequent block of 50,000 litres per month: $68

Examples of Commercial Charges

  1. Connection A: Uses up to 50,000 litres – Charge: $34.
  2. Connection B: Uses 290,000 litres;
    • Block 1: $34
    • Subsequent 5 blocks: 5×68=340
    • Total$374.
  3. Connection C: Uses 1,000,000 litres;
    • Block 1: $34
    • Subsequent 19 blocks: 19×68=1,292
    • Total$1,326.

Special Considerations

  • Agricultural Use: There will be no charges for agricultural use without an power connection during this tariff year, as more data is needed.
  • Community Services: Churches, community halls, and schools will be charged at the domestic rate, while community water stations and public ablutions will incur no charges.

Payment Information

  • Payments are made in arrears, with invoices issued in early November and due by November 20.
  • Invoices will be generated electronically via email or delivered by hand.
  • Payments can be made through bank transfers or in person at the TTV office.

Government Subsidy for Free Allocation

The government will cover the cost of up to 50,000 litres per month for all eligible connections.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • The connection owner must be registered with TTV.
  • Users of the water must be residents or occupier of the household.
  • Rental properties qualify if the connection is registered under the tenant’s name.

Ineligible Entities: Community halls, churches, and schools will not receive the subsidy. Only one household will receive the subsidy if multiple households are registered under the same name.

The tariffs reflect a structured approach to water usage, ensuring fair charges while accommodating community needs. As we move forward, TTV will work on verifying customer classes and integrating systems with Vodafone for efficient metering and invoicing.
